2026 6-Month Tax Bills
The Town of Belgrade has changed its budget year from January 1 - December 31 to July 1 – June 30 annually. This change was approved by voters at last year’s annual Town Meeting. As part of the change, we are sending out a 6-month tax bill to cover the Town and School budgets for January 1st through June 30th, 2026.
The Board of Selectpersons set the tax rate (mil rate) at their regularly scheduled meeting of February 3, 2026 at $4.42 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The tax commitment process took place late last week with our Tax Collector (Penny Braley) and Assessor’s Agent (Rob Duplisea). We have uploaded the tax commitment books (personal property and real estate) along with the tax billing file under the ‘Financials’ menu of our website.
Of particular note and in accordance with Maine State Statute, we wanted to let you know that we are required to assess the owner of record as of April 1, 2025. Any changes in ownership or applications filed with the Assessors Office after April 1, 2025 will be reflected in the tax bills coming out this fall.
Hard copies of your tax bill (both personal property and real estate) should be in the mail later this week.
The town will hold an Annual Town Meeting June 9 and 13 for review, consideration and approval of a 12-month budget which will cover the period of July 1 2026 through June 30 2027. Annual Town Meetings will be held in June going forward with two tax bills due – one in April for 6 months and one in October for 6 months.
If you have any questions regarding this 6-month tax bill, or the fiscal year change, please don’t hesitate to contact the Town Office.
Penny Braley, Tax Collector
